1. What is Prickly Pearizona?
Prickly Pearizona LLC is a regenerative agriculture initiative growing drought-tolerant prickly pear cactus in Wittmann, Arizona. We use zero-waste, water-efficient practices and donate at least 25% of each harvest to local food banks.

 

2. What is regenerative agriculture?
Regenerative agriculture involves sustainable farming methods that rebuild soil, conserve water, restore ecosystems, and produce healthy food. At Prickly Pearizona, this includes planting native prickly pear cactus, composting, water harvesting, and minimizing waste.

 

3. Why prickly pear cactus?
Prickly pear cactus is native to Arizona, requires very little water, thrives in desert conditions, and produces nutritious pads (nopales) and fruits (tunas). It's an ideal sustainable crop for our arid climate.

 

4. How can I get involved?
You can support us by sponsoring cactus plants, volunteering, donating tools or materials, or sharing our mission with your community. Visit our "How to Support" page to learn more.


5. Where does donated produce go?
We donate at least 25% of our harvest directly to local food banks and community organizations. Surplus or bruised fruits are provided to animal shelters or local farms as nutritious animal feed.


6. Can I visit the farm?
Yes! We offer scheduled volunteer days, community workshops, and occasional tours. Check our "Volunteer & Events" page to participate or arrange a visit.

 

7. How do you use donated funds?
Donations cover cactus plants, planting materials, tools, irrigation equipment, volunteer support, and farm maintenance, ensuring efficient operations and maximum community impact.

 

8. Is my donation tax-deductible?
Currently, we’re an LLC and donations are not tax-deductible. However, we are pursuing fiscal sponsorship partnerships. Once secured, donations may become tax-deductible.

1. Incredible Water Efficiency
Prickly pear cactus produces approximately 3 to 4 pounds of edible pads or fruit per gallon of water, making it significantly more water-efficient than traditional crops.


2. Highly Nutritious Superfood
Nopales (pads) contain dietary fiber, antioxidants, vitamins (A, C), calcium, and potassium. The fruit (tunas) is rich in antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C.


3. Zero-Waste Crop
Every part of the prickly pear cactus can be utilized. Pads and fruit feed people, bruised produce feeds animals, and seeds can be harvested for oil or replanted.
